Sector Agenda Maritime Manufacturing Industry
The Sector Agenda for the Maritime Manufacturing Industry is a policy plan developed by the Dutch government together with the maritime sector. Its goal is to renew and future-proof the Dutch maritime manufacturing industry. Although the sector has traditionally held a strong position, it is under significant pressure due to unfair competition from Asian companies, increasing regulatory burdens related to the environment, noise, and certification, and an uneven international playing field.
The Sector Agenda for the Maritime Manufacturing Industry consists of three main elements:
- 5 action lines
- 25 concrete measures
- 5 flagship projects
The 5 action lines
1. Focus in maritime procurement
The government will adopt a more strategic procurement approach (having ships built in the Netherlands).
2. Financing and fiscal measures
Subsidies, investments, and tax measures.
3. Strengthening innovation
New technologies (sustainability, digitalization, and autonomous systems).
4. Improving the business climate
Making the Netherlands more attractive for companies and shipyards.
5. Strengthening the international position
Improving competitiveness with other countries.
25 concrete measures
Within the 5 action lines, practical actions have been translated into 25 concrete measures. These measures can be found in the document Sector Agenda for the Maritime Manufacturing Industry – No guts, no Hollands Glorie!, which is available for download at the bottom of the page (only in Dutch).
5 flagship projects
- Maritime Master Plan
